We are
One Ohana.
Everything begins with family. “Ohana” represents togetherness, selflessness, commitment to a shared purpose, and the pursuit of excellence.
Developing athletes—and future leaders
We stand for something greater than winning. One Ohana is committed to developing confident athletes, strong teammates, and young people prepared to lead with character.
Through volleyball, we teach sacrifice, hard work, accountability, enthusiasm, resilience, and thoughtful decision-making. We challenge athletes to move beyond self-imposed limits, compete with purpose, and become the best version of themselves.
We train hard and compete to win, but never at the expense of character, integrity, or respect.
Success is measured in the values we demonstrate every day, both on and off the court.
Be Pono
Be Pono means doing what is right—even when no one is watching. It guides how we train, compete, communicate, and represent our family.
Choose integrity even when the decision is difficult.
Carry confidence, responsibility, and self-respect.
Communicate openly and own your actions.
Respond to challenges with courage and persistence.
Honor sport, school, health, family, and community.
Pursue excellence in how you treat every person.
A lifetime of coaching
Peter’s coaching journey began in Hawaii in 1989, when he was invited to coach Hawaii Youth for Christ in a summer outdoor volleyball tournament. That experience sparked a lifelong passion for helping athletes grow.
After attending college in Colorado—where he assisted with the volleyball program and played university tennis—Peter returned to Honolulu in 1994. He coached tennis and volleyball at several schools and with Hawaii Volleyball Academy, while learning from respected Hawaii coaches Guy Enriques and Hansen Nuuhiwa.
In 1998, Peter moved to Oregon and coached with Emerald City Volleyball and the University of Oregon Men’s Club Volleyball Team.
Building a volleyball community
A need for accessible, high-quality training grew into decades of programs, teams, relationships, and opportunities across Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Created in the Wilsonville and Lake Oswego area to serve athletes of all levels with quality training and personal attention.
Programs grew across Portland and Vancouver, eventually supporting as many as 14 teams.
NWVBA and later One Ohana offered beach opportunities throughout Southwest Washington.
NWVBA operated its own space and supported 12 teams through 2015.
Private and small-group training launched at Club Green Meadows after Peter returned from medical leave.
In the middle of the pandemic, a dedicated Vancouver home opened for safe private lessons and small-group training.
A new development pathway created more opportunities for young athletes.
One Ohana launched its first two travel teams, both at the U18 level.
A facility lease extension reinforced One Ohana’s future in Southwest Washington.
Club, Academy, beach, lessons, camps, clinics, open gyms, and athlete development all live under one purpose.
How we treat people matters
Gossip and negative talk do not strengthen a team. We expect athletes, parents, coaches, staff, and affiliates to communicate with honesty and respect, allowing the quality of our work and the character of our people to speak for themselves.
